Drawing inspiration from her professor Dr. Stephanie Winkeljohn Black, Zoya emphasizes the importance of cultural and gendered perspectives in understanding psychopathology, believing that these lenses significantly influence the way individuals experience mental health challenges. She also champions personal autonomy, recognizing that each client’s agency is essential to their healing process.
Her academic journey was further enriched by reading Journey to the End of Islam by Michael Mohammad Knight, which deepened her understanding of the complexities that arise when practicing religion across different cultures. This insight informs her empathetic approach, helping her appreciate the nuanced relationship between culture and belief systems.
Zoya's areas of focus include anxiety and stress management, depression, relationship counseling, trauma, self-esteem exploration, grief, anger management, life transitions, women’s mental health, and family therapy. Her experience as a Cyber Harassment Helpline Associate at the Digital Rights Foundation in Lahore, Pakistan, underscores her commitment to amplifying the voices of minorities and women, ensuring they receive the necessary legal and emotional support.
Zoya believes that therapy is a space where one's skin color, gender, and past mistakes do not define them; rather, it is their unique story that matters most. Through her compassionate and collaborative approach, Zoya strives to empower her clients on their personal journeys towards healing and growth.
In her free time, Zoya enjoys playing board games, reading, and creating detailed sketches, activities that reflect her creative spirit and love for connection.
