Masters Candidate Therapist
Sadie Controfeld
“The work of trying softer begins when we release our desire for the quick fix and tend to the wounds underneath the surface.” — Aundi Kolber
MEET SADIE:
Therapy can be a place where you feel safe enough to be vulnerable, understood without judgment, and supported as you begin creating meaningful change. Sadie Cotrofeld warmly welcomes individuals, couples, and families into a compassionate and collaborative environment where they can explore their experiences, emotions, relationships, and hopes for the future at their own pace. Currently earning her Master of Social Work (MSW) from West Chester University with plans to pursue clinical licensure, Sadie brings curiosity, warmth, and genuine commitment to her work. She believes clients do not need to have everything figured out before beginning therapy—sometimes the most important first step is simply having someone willing to walk alongside you.
Sadie's approach is collaborative, strengths-based, and grounded in the belief that meaningful change begins with understanding both where we are and what has shaped us. Her developing clinical approach draws from Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Attachment-Based Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). She helps clients recognize existing strengths, develop practical coping skills, understand patterns in their thoughts and emotions, and work toward goals that feel meaningful to them. Through an attachment-based lens, Sadie also helps clients explore how early relationships and experiences may continue to influence the ways they connect, communicate, trust, and respond emotionally in the present.
Sadie is particularly passionate about helping people create healthier and more fulfilling relationships. She has completed Gottman Level 1 Couples Training and incorporates Gottman-informed principles into her work with couples, helping partners become more curious about one another, communicate with greater empathy, and recognize moments when emotional connection may matter more than immediately solving the problem. Her clinical interests also include women's mental health, addiction, depression, social anxiety, ADHD, and other emotional and relational concerns. Whether working with an individual, a couple, or a family, Sadie strives to create a space where every person feels heard, respected, and empowered to move toward greater connection and well-being.
Sadie brings a meaningful range of experiences to her clinical work. She currently serves as a Care Manager with the Office of Aging in the Lancaster area and previously worked as a Behavioral Health Technician supporting neurodivergent children. She has also supported adult women seeking restoration following experiences of sex trafficking, both through NorthStar Initiative and during a year spent in the Dominican Republic working with Lilyhouse. These experiences profoundly shaped Sadie's understanding of healing and reinforced a principle that remains central to her work today: healing is rarely a quick fix—it develops through connection, compassion, safety, and patience. Her graduate training has further strengthened her ability to thoughtfully navigate complex mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, ADHD, and conversations surrounding suicidal ideation.
Sadie's interest in becoming a therapist grew from a deep curiosity about people and the ways experiences can shape how individuals think, feel, connect, and move through the world. She has been particularly influenced by Aundi Kolber's Try Softer and its emphasis on self-compassion and quieting the inner critic—ideas that continue to inform the way she thinks about growth and healing. Outside the therapy room, Sadie enjoys reading, journaling, walking, traveling, trying new foods, and experiencing different cultures and ways of life. She is always looking toward her next adventure and values what she can learn from the people and communities she encounters. Sadie's hope is that clients leave her office feeling less alone, more compassionate toward themselves, and increasingly confident in their ability to build the life and relationships they want.
