MEET CHERDELL:
Growing up in inner-city Philadelphia surrounded by family, peers, and neighbors both witnessing and experiencing hardships, trauma, and poverty, while being ashamed to get help served as the catalyst that inspired Cherdell to become a therapist.
Cherdell has a wealth of experience working as a counselor in various settings. She worked as a Mental Health Technician in Franklin County for several years. Furthermore, she has worked as a Youth Counselor as a Child Counselor for Domestic Violence victims serving the Cumberland and Perry Counties, and as a Blended Case Manager serving York County. Cherdell currently works as a Multisystemic Therapist at Adelphoi serving youth, families, and key participants in York County.

A key influencer in Cherdell’s life was Dr. Campbell, who taught social psychology at Shippensburg University. It was through his teachings that Cherdell realized how regardless of our differences we are all connected in a way, and all have a desire to belong. Campbell emphasized the importance of being mindful and aware of how we all impact each other’s lives.
Angelhead: My Brother’s Descent into Madness, by Greg Bottom exposed Cherdell to the world of mental health struggles, the depths of a fragmented mind, the impact of substance abuse, and the influence one’s immediate environment has on their healing journey. Learning about substance-induced Schizophrenia in this context is what heightened her interest in psychopathology.
Cherdell’s clients describe her as empathic, self-aware, accepting, optimistic, and confident. During therapeutic sessions, she utilizes both person-centered approach and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. It’s through the belief that we are all experts on our own lives, that she provides spirited guidance, emotional support, and a genuine therapeutic alliance. She inspires clients to freely express, gain independence, and ultimately, empower themselves.
Cherdell’s expertise includes Family Therapy, Trauma Therapy, Depression, LGBTQ Mental Health, Grief Counseling, Adolescent Development, Child Development, Interpersonal Relationship Management, and Gerontology. During Cherdell’s final stages of her studies, she applied to become a Masters Level Multisystemic Therapist and earned the position based on experience, education, confidence, and willingness to learn.
In her spare time, Cherdell immerses herself in watching psychological thrillers and true crime documentaries - she enjoys pretending to be a part of the team and sharing her insights. She also plays hairdresser for friends and family as a way to express her creativity and individuality. If she could paint the world the color lavender, she would.
